With his elder brother and youngest sister happily settled in Sullivan’s Crossing, he shows up hoping to clear his head before moving on to his next adventure. But, like every visitor to the Crossing, he’s immediately drawn to the down-to-earth people and the seemingly simple way of life.Dakota is unprepared for how quickly things get complicated. As a newcomer, he is on everyone’s radar—especially the single women in town. While he enjoys the attention at first, he’s really only attracted to the one woman who isn’t interested. And spending quality time with his siblings is eye-opening. As he gets to know them, he also gets to know himself and what he truly wants. When all the Jones siblings gather for a family wedding, the four adults are drawn together for the first time in a way they never were as children. As they struggle to accept each other, warts and all, the true nature and strength of their bond is tested. But all of them come to realize that your family are the people who see you for who you really are and love you anyway. And for Dakota, that truth allows him to find the home and family he’s always wanted.

Book The Family Gathering (Sullivan's Crossing Book 3) Review :

Oh my gosh, I love this book so much. I remembered Cal and Sierra, but I had forgotten about Dakota and Sedona...so I wasn’t sure this book would pull at my emotions like the first two in this series had. These four siblings grew up in a home without stable parents, and since Dakota hated his home and life, he joined the Army at 17...right after high school. Sid (short for Sidney) had a devasting divorce, and her brother brought her from California to stay with him and his sons in Colorado. Dakota has visited his brother and sister in Colorado before, but now that he is out of the Army he finds himself wanting to spend some time with them in this town about two hours from Denver near the Continental Divide. As Dakota grows to like the area and understands what Cal and Maggie (and baby Elizabeth) like about living there, he realizes that Sierra has made a place for herself there as well. Dakota meets Sid when she is bar tending in her brother’s place, and the more often he talks with her and watches how she talks to and treats her customers the more she interests him. Sully, Maggie’s father, is an important part of this book, along with several other “people” who were part of the previous books. These characters are so well written and the storyline has romance, babies, a stalker and fun.
A standalone read with a HEA. The last book in this series. It ties up a lot of loose ends and brings closure to a lot of family issues. It centers on the story of Dakota and Sid. Dakota's family lives in Sullivan's Crossing. His parents were of the hippy generation but his parents had a lot more issues than just being "far out". His father had a mental illness that went untreated. His mother kept them together and fostered the father's problems. they had no idea of the pain and torture they were putting their children through. The kids all reacted differently but they all managed to get away from the parents and move away. Dakota joined the Army and spent his adult life serving his country. In a dispute with a "crazy" officer he wound up in the brig and was ultimately discharged even though the investigation showed the officer had lost his marbles.Sid's family is also in Sullivan's Crossing. Her only brother lives there, owns a bar, is a widower and is raising his two sons. At the lowest point in her life he took her in and made her part of his little family. She is in S.C. recovering from a very bad divorce that left her shattered. She meets Dakota and even though he is showing her attention she is just not interested. This is the story of their HEA. There is a nut job in this story - which IMHO didn't get near what was coming to her, but it adds some drama to the story. Dakota's sister has a big part in this story as she becomes a wife, mother and then has the baby snatched away all in the matter of a few months. But, there is always a silver lining to a R. Carr story and this one definitely has a HEA.At the first of the story two families and half the town is introduced and it is hard to keep them all straight. As the story progresses and you get to know or be reacquainted with the characters it all becomes very clear and very interesting. I really enjoyed the book and found it to be very entertaining. as always, I love Ms. Carr's books. She tells a story that keeps you reading right to the very end. I definitely recommend this book. if you are looking for a couple of more good reads, then read books 1 and 2 first and then you will know some of the characters on a more personal level. All of the books are standalone reads and end with a HEA. I loved Tom in this story. He was such a cool guy and a great hero. A lovely man.I was not paid for this review. I am not a writer nor do I know one. I am not kin to this author. I am a reader and this is my opinion, nothing more, nothing less. 7/24/18
